Clayfield College’s annual On the Green concert is set to return in August, with singer-songwriter Ben Lee leading this year’s line-up for what has become one of the school’s biggest community events.

The family-friendly outdoor concert will take place on Sunday, 2 August, welcoming students, families, alumni and the wider community for an afternoon of live music, food and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and enjoy a relaxed winter afternoon celebrating music and community connection.
Having drawn sold-out crowds in recent years, On the Green has become a fixture on the College calendar. Previous headline performers have included James Morrison and Emma Pask in 2023, Kate Miller-Heidke in 2024 and Kate Ceberano in 2025. The event has also become known for giving students opportunities to perform alongside professional artists.
Ben Lee Brings Music and Mentorship
This year’s headline act, Ben Lee, will perform with his full band and also take to the stage as his alter ego, DJ Dad Bod. Best known for songs including Catch My Disease and Cigarettes Will Kill You, Lee has built a career spanning more than three decades after first finding success as a teenager with the band Noise Addict.
The afternoon’s program will also feature the Clayfield College Big Band, the Brisbane City Big Band and Clayfield College alumna Chloe Noon, showcasing both established performers and emerging local talent.
Beyond the concert itself, Lee will spend time with students during an open rehearsal and question-and-answer session. Members of the College’s three choirs will also perform alongside him, giving students the chance to collaborate with one of Australia’s best-known singer-songwriters.
Lee has said he enjoys meeting young musicians and seeing the enthusiasm they bring to performing, particularly those who are deeply committed to developing their craft.
More Than a Concert
Clayfield College Principal Dr Andrew Cousins said the annual event is designed to create meaningful learning experiences as well as entertain audiences.
He said the College seeks artists who are willing to engage with students beyond their performance, helping them build confidence and strengthen their musicianship through authentic collaboration. According to Dr Cousins, previous headline acts have generously shared their professional knowledge, personal experiences and lessons from their careers with students.
He also described On the Green as the College’s flagship community event, bringing together students, families, alumni and the wider community through a shared appreciation of live music. That educational focus continues to be a central part of the concert.

A Winter Afternoon for the Community
On the Green offers more than live performances. Visitors can enjoy food vendors, a picnic-style atmosphere and an afternoon designed for people of all ages to gather on the College grounds.
With another acclaimed Australian artist joining students and ensembles on stage, this year’s concert continues a format that has attracted sold-out crowds in previous years.
On the Green will be held on Sunday, 2 August, from 12pm to 4pm on the Main Oval at Clayfield College. Tickets are available through the College, with organisers indicating that more artists will be announced ahead of the event.
